There are various services available for people at risk or, or experiencing, homelessness, in all areas of Australia. State, Territory and local Governments, as well as many community sector organisations, operate telephone services which are a good first point of information and referral.

Homeless Persons Information Centre (HPIC)
Telephone information and referral service.
Operates 7 days a week between 9am to 10pm (closed each day between 1pm -2pm)

Youth Emergency Accommodation Line (YEAL)
Provides a referral and information service across NSW to young people aged 12-24 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Contact YEAL to speak to a member of staff on weekdays between 9am and 4 pm, on (02) 9698 5833 ext 25.
Alternatively, you can access the recorded message of vacancies in crisis services. There are two recorded messages - one for rural services and for metropolitan areas.

An up to date website dedicated to people in crisis.

Women's Domestic Violence Crisis Service of Victoria
Crisis telephone support including referral to safe accommodation (refuge) for women who are experiencing abuse.
Available 24 hours, 7 days a week

Salvation Army St Kilda Crisis Centre
A Statewide, open age service to people in need of support.
The Centre provides a crisis response with follow up referrals for assistance with housing and tenancy difficulties, finances and budgeting, substance abuse issues, and mental health problems.
The Centre also provides a 24 hour crisis response for women and children who are escaping family violence and access to family violence outreach services for transitional support.

Qld

Domestic Violence Telephone Service - DV Connect Womensline
Provides support, information, advocacy, telephone counselling, referrals and importantly, the statewide coordination of emergency refuge and shelter placements across Queensland.
Available 24 hours, 7 days a week
Ph. 1800 811 811 or TTY: 1800 812-225 1800 811 811 crisis counselling and safe refuge.

Homeless Persons Information Queensland (HPIQ)
This service can help by providing information about:

  • housing,
  • advice and support,
  • practical assistance such as where to get meals, showers and clothing.

This service is available for people of all ages.
Available 24 hours.

WA

Women's Domestic Violence Helpline
Telephone support and counselling for women experiencing family and domestic violence.  Can help you if you want to find a refuge or a safe place to stay or if you just need to talk to someone who will understand how the abuse affects you and your children.

Salvo Care Line
For people experiencing a crisis, enabling them to gain access to a network of services including:

  • referral to emergency accommodation;
  • telephone counselling; and
  • information and referral for other material needs.

These services can assess your situation and can help by providing:

-referrals to the appropriate support services in your area;

-information, advice and support;

-crisis accommodation;

-supportive housing;

-transitional accommodation;

-Confidential counselling.

Safe at Home Family Violence Response and Referral Line
Offers information and referral to the full range of response, counselling, information and other support services.
Available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Provides immediate support, information on your options and can arrange immediate emergency accommodation.

ACT

First Point is the central intake service for homelessness in the ACT. First Point provides one free call once, to quickly and easily connect people to the best available supports. First Point keeps an up-to-the-minute register of vacancies in the ACT and provides crisis assessment and placement. Call 1800 1 POINT / 1800 176 468 between Mon – Fri 9am – 7pm and Sat - 10am – 1 pm.
First Point is available to all people in the ACT who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Website: www.firstpoint.org.au
