Ageing population faces escalating housing crisis

Baby boomers are facing homelessness as part of an emerging housing crisis for older Australians, a new report has found. The report, Ageing In What Place, by welfare agency Hanover, found increasing numbers of older Melburnians are at risk of ending up on public housing waiting lists or sleeping rough. Hanover research and service development general manager Shelley Mallett, who co-wrote the report, said many older people were facing homelessness for the first time. Home Is Where My Heart Is returns in 2011 to explore the concept of home through the eyes (and cameras) of young homeless people.

 

Mentored by some of Perth’s brightest emerging photographers, these young people will capture images of what ‘home’ means to them. Their diverse interpretations of home show that everybody needs a place to call their own.
